Assin Gyinabordie is a one of the 52 communities fringing the KCA. Located in the Assin Attandanso paramountcy in the Assin South District of the Central Region, it has a population of about 700 inhabitants including children, with males dominating. GHCT supported the community in mechanizing one of their 2 boreholesto reduce the time women and children spend fetching water. The chief and elders of the community have set up a water management committee to see to the maintenance of the facility. A bank account has also been opened where revenue received from fetching water is deposited at the bank to cater for electricity bills and other maintenance costs.
According to the chief of the community, the mechanized bore hole has bought a big relief to the community as community members can now enjoy portable water which has helped improve their lives, thereby eliminating water borne diseases that used to affect them. Again, the people no more walk far distance to fetch water as there is availability of water at their “door steps” thereby reducing snake bites and deaths.
