Establishment of the Trust

Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT)

Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT) also known as “The Trust” is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization set up to promote the preservation and conservation of Ghana’s historic monuments, sites and biodiversity. GHCT was set up in August 1996 and registered in February 1997 under the Trustee Incorporation Act of 1962 (Act 106). The Deed establishing the Fund was signed in 2000 with USAID with a seventeen-member Board and with USAID as an ex-officio member of the Board. GHCT started full operations in 1997. “The Trust” has consolidated the gains achieved during the Natural Resource Conservation and Historic Preservation (NRCHP) project resulting in the creation of Kakum Conservation Area (KCA), the restoration of Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, and Fort Saint Jago also in Elmina among others. To ensure that “The Trust” is able to perform its assigned tasks, GHCT is supported by a $2million endowment fund held in the U.S.A.

One of the things that I love about Ghana is it's diversity. Kakum national park is located in Cape Coast in Ghana. The most awesome part of this expansive national park is the very fun canopy walk which helps you explore the canopy of the rainforest through the clouds. I experienced this and it was soooooo fun!
