Subject: Construction of the Kakum Canopy Walkway.
In an interview granted by Mr. Kenneth Akoffo Asare to Kofi TV, Mr. Asare claimed to have been the engineer who constructed the world-renowned Kakum Canopy Walkway.
The Kakum National Park’s Canopy Walkway was financed by the USAID, and they contracted the veteran forest ecologist, Dr. Illar Muul: who designed and lead the engineering work supported by qualified surveyors who conducted the health and strength assessments of each proposed anchor tree to be used for the canopy walkway. The other team members were made up of four carpenters and two tree climbers: Anthony Yeboah, Akwesi Antwi, Joseph Boadu, Kwame Adjei, Kenneth Asare and Isaac Nuamah respectively. Two (2)
Canadian rock experts, John Kelson and Tom Ainsorth, were also hired as advisory supervisors.
A specialized team of international engineers and local skilled artisans were contracted to implement the Kakum project. Mr. Kenneth Asare indeed was hired as a tree climber for the project, since he was known locally for his bird trapping and climbing skills.
The maintenance of the Kakum Canopy walkway was managed by international experts who transferred knowledge to the Ghanaian team of carpenters and climbers, through practical training and then handed over, in the fifth year of operation.
It is based on this expertise that the Kakum National Park Canopy Walkway to date, has a No Accident record, during its twenty-three (23) years of operations
